SAM RYDE METAL STUDIO

Nestled in the heart of the UK, Sam Ryde creates eclectic, original pieces of jewellery created using traditional silversmithing techniques.

Sam grew up surrounded by around technical, mechanical and crafty folk, Whether it be a father who was a welder or a mother and grandparents who had a love for woodwork, pottery and stitching – it’s no surprise therefore she has turned out to be a “maker of things”.

Her story began age 15 when her metal work teacher at school asked if she would like to become his apprentice for a while and learn goldsmithing techniques… and here is where the story begins. Whilst her peers were off drinking and dancing the nights away Sam spent many many evenings melting metal, snapping saw blades and cutting her hands to shreds. She  was taught invaluable lessons in soldering, stone setting and the ways of metal, something that would stay with her forever.

Sam had a big break from metal smithing throughout her twenties, however metal smithing is a deep rooted love within her soul – she is fortunate enough to be able to return to this passion – this time in her own home studio buried away at the bottom of her garden in the heart of Nottinghamshire, UK.

Inspired by the world around her, Sam loves collecting gemstones, old and quirky things and is eternally grateful to have the opportunity of sharing her creations.
